STUDENT MINISTER
Randy has served FBCR as the student minister for junior high and high school students since he joined us in 1985.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
He is a graduate of Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, where he earned a Master of Divinity from the School of Theology. Randy joined FBCR from the First Baptist Church of Bryan, Texas, where he had served as the minister of youth and recreation for five years. Before going to Bryan, he also served as the minister of youth and associate pastor for 5 years at Monterey Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Randy now has more than 35 years of youth minsitry experience.
Randy has been a member of the Metro Youth Ministers Association since 1985. He is active as a youth ministry conference leader for the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Go To Youth Ministry, and a variety of churches and associations. In 1996, he co-authored a book with Dr. Allen Jackson, professor of youth ministry at New Orleans Seminary, entitled, “Connected, Committed, and a Little Bit Crazy,” (Lifeway Christian Resources). This book has served as a training guide for adults who work with youth through the local church.
PERSONAL
Randy is married to Carol Floyd Johnson who is Director of Language Arts for the RISD. She is involved in the church’s youth ministry as a Bible Fellowship director. Carol is a 1975 graduate of Baylor University, where she received an elementary education degree with a certification in kindergarten. She earned a Master of Education Administration degree from University of North Texas in 2007. Randy and Carol have two adult daughters, Casey and Lindsey.
